Community news and events

Get ready to vote! The deadline to request to vote by mail is today, Thursday September 24th, at 4:30PM. Advance voting takes place October 6–11th, with election day on Monday, October 26th, from 10AM–8PM. Visit the City of Toronto’s election website for more details.
Ward 11 candidates debate tonight at 7PM! A candidates debate for our ward, Ward 11: University–Rosedale, is happening this evening, Thursday September 24th, from 7–8:30PM at College Street United Church (454 College Street). PARA is partnering with the Annex Residents’ Association, Bay Cloverhill Community Association, Harbord Village Residents’ Association and Seaton Village Residents’ Association to host the evening, giving the community a chance to hear directly from the candidates running to represent us at City Hall.
The inaugural Bloor Street Mile is happening on Bloor Street this Sunday September 27th. Bloor Street between Bathurst Street and Yonge Street will be closed to vehicles 7AM–12PM. Visit their website at BloorStreetMile.com for more information.
National Day of Truth and Reconciliation takes place on September 30th. We encourage our PARA community to wear orange to support Orange Shirt Day.
On October 1st, join Toronto mayoral candidates Chris Alexander, Brad Bradford and Olivia Chow for a debate on the key matters facing the citizens of our city sponsored by Federation of South Toronto Residents’ Association, Ontario Renters Coalition, and Federation of North Toronto Residents’ Association. The debate is from 7–9PM at Trinity-St. Paul’s United Church (427 Bloor Street West). For event details, email: debate@fontra.ca and register here.
Home history workshop on October 14th: Interested in finding out more about your home’s past or how to research the heritage of any property? PARA is pleased to offer a free Zoom workshop on Wednesday October 14th at 7PM, led by retired City of Toronto Archivist Elizabeth Cuthbertson. Toronto Police 14 Division is hosting a Community Town Hall on October 14th from 6:30–8:30PM at Trinity Community Recreation Centre (155 Crawford Street). PARA is actively working on behalf of area residents to improve the local neighbourhood. PARA volunteers lobby for sensible development, and work to enhance the character, beauty and green spaces of the neighbourhood.

Join PARA for our Annual Fall Clean Up Day on November 1st from 1–3PM. With support from Little Italy BIA, come out and support our community by cleaning our shared spaces in preparation for the colder seasons. Meet at Healey Willan Park.
